Hearings Overview

The Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (ICRC) is a screening Committee of the College. When reviewing a case before them, a panel must decide if the concerns identified related to a physiotherapist’s practice are serious enough to warrant a referral to a hearings committee of the College.

A panel of the ICRC can refer cases to the Discipline Committee of the College where there are serious allegations of incompetence or professional misconduct. A panel of the ICRC can also refer cases to the Fitness to Practise Committee where there are serious health related allegations related to a physiotherapist’s capacity to practice the profession.

The hearings processes are described in the Health Professions Procedural Code which is Schedule 2 of the Regulated Health Professions Act. At the conclusion of the hearing, and if a finding or professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity has been made, the registrant’s certificate of registration can be revoked or suspended, or some other term, condition or limitation may be placed on their practice.
