New Legislation

Health System Improvement Act

The Ontario government announced on December 12, 2006 that it is introducing new legislation of importance to the College and the practice of physiotherapists. The Health System Improvement Act proposes changes to various existing laws including the amendment of the Regulated Health Professions Act to:

  • increase the transparency of colleges,
  • promote interprofessional practice and team-based care, and
  • improve Health Human Resource data collection to assist in planning.

The changes associated with this Act will come into effect on June 4, 2009. Registrants will be provided with information updates on the changes at that time.

The government has also proposed the establishment of a new college to regulate kinesiology.

The College was an active participant in the Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC), and contributed to the debate and the development of these policy initiatives. [See College response to HPRAC report:
