About the Jurisprudence Education Program

The Jurisprudence Education Program was launched January 1, 2006. This program is a review of the laws, regulations and standards that relate to the practice of physiotherapy/physical therapy in Ontario. It is designed to ensure that physiotherapists/physical therapists understand their legal responsibilities and how these affect day-to-day practice.

All physiotherapists/physical therapists holding Independent  Practice certificates are required to complete the online Module to assess their understanding of legislation and College standards.

New registrants are required to complete the program at the first available opportunity after registering at the College. Log in information and passwords are emailed and mailed to individuals and they have six months to complete the program. All physiotherapists/physical therapist will again be required to complete the Module in 2011.

Physiotherapists/physical therapists are encouraged to review the Registrants’ Guide on this website and discuss the scenarios with other physiotherapists/physical therapists.

Jurisprudence Community of Practice

This Community of Practice was created primarily for rural and sole practitioners who do not have colleagues close by to engage in discussions about the Jurisprudence Module. The College encourages all physiotherapists/physical therapists to engage in peer discussion and to learn from one another's experiences.

Module 1

After all registrants completed Module 1, which launched in 2006,  the Module answers were released for review. The Jurisprudence Education Program Module 1: Companion document contains the answers, rationales and content domains for all of the fifty Module questions. This document was created in response to feedback received from registrants that indicated a strong desire to complete the Jurisprudence learning process by reviewing the correct answers and rationales from the Module questions.
