Standards for Professional Practice

The Standards for Practice for Physiotherapists establishes a consistent and user-friendly resource detailing the College’s expectations of its registrants and how they should meet these expectations. The standards are organized into a framework of four key areas:
  1. Standards for Professional Qualification
  2. Standards for Professional Practice
  3. Standards for Professional Continuing Competence
  4. Standards for Professional Ethics
By definition, any standard published in the Standards for Practice for Physiotherapists is a standard of the College. Since its written standards are one of the key criteria that the College uses to define professional expectations, registrants are expected to meet the expectations as defined in the College’s standards.

Some standards will be more relevant to some areas of practice than others. While registration with the College permits physiotherapists to practise within the broad scope of practice of physiotherapy, physiotherapists are obliged to practise within the sphere of their competence and to meet those standards that are consistent with the context of their practice environment and role description.
