Registrar’s Inquiries

Concerns related to a registrant’s conduct, competence or capacity to practice the profession may be brought to the attention of the College in several ways: through formal complaints filed by members of the public, or through mandatory reports received from physiotherapists, employers of physiotherapists or health care providers.

On occasion, the College receives information regarding a registrants conduct, competence or capacity to practice the profession which are of a very serious nature and may warrant attention. For example, there may be a criminal case being reported in the newspaper or there may be an individual who has been sexually abused by a physiotherapist who is unable to file a formal complaint or go through the complaints process.

The Registrar will consider these issues on a case by case basis. The source of the information must be verifiable and staff within the Professional Conduct team must be able to speak with the individual who has identified the concerns. If further inquiries are required a formal investigation may be conducted, the results of which would be considered by the members of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee.

The College cannot receive anonymous information.
