When you see a registered physiotherapist in Ontario, you can take comfort that you will receive exceptional care. Like doctors, nurses and other regulated healthcare professionals, registered physiotherapists must meet standards of competence and education before they can register to work in Ontario. As well, they are expected to continually meet high levels of quality, safety and ethics in the care they provide.
The College works to protect you by regulating and improving the practice of physiotherapy. A wide range of activities support this goal including:
- The development of guidelines on ethics and standards of practice (the rules);
- Partnerships with physiotherapy educators; professional associations, government, the insurance industry, other regulatory bodies and consumers;
- Keeping up to date on research and policy issues;
- Education programs for physiotherapists to prevent sexual abuse and other forms of misconduct;
- Activities to improve and help physiotherapists maintain competence throughout their careers.
