Eligibility Criteria to Run as a Candidate in the 2024 Council Elections

To run in the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario Council Elections, you must meet all of the eligibility criteria and you must have one eligible physiotherapist from your district nominate you. Please verify your district by checking your postal code and confirm your eligibility and the eligibility of your nominators in the College By-laws.

  • For the 2024 Council Elections, you must live in one of the districts up for election (District 3 or District 5 or District 6 or District 7)
  • You cannot have been a director, officer, committee member, employee or have had a decision-making role in the Ontario Physiotherapy Association (OPA), the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) or similar organizations with a mandate or interests that conflicts with the mandate of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario in the last 12 months.
  • You have not been found guilty of professional misconduct, incompetence, or to be an incapacitated member at any time in the six years immediately preceding the election.
  • Your certificate of registration has not been revoked or suspended for professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity at any time in the six years immediately preceding the election.
  • You are not currently the subject of a disciplinary or incapacity proceeding.
  • You are not in default of payment of fees prescribed by any regulation.

College By-laws

You are required to complete an online module before February 21, 2024
at 2:00 p.m. to learn more about the role of Council, Council members and self-regulation.

You are also required to complete the Values, Behaviours and Competency Assessment before 
February 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. The Assessment is based on the College’s Council and Committee Competency Profile. The objective of the Competency Profile is to ensure that incoming Council members possess the foundational behaviours, attributes and skills that all Council members need to effectively engage in the work of Council.

2024 Council Election: Important Dates 

Nominations Open

Eligible voters receive a secure email on January 17, 2024 from a third-party vendor with a link to nominate a peer using the online nomination form. Nominators must be eligible to vote in the electoral district in which they are nominating a peer. 

February 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.: Nominations Close and Candidate Statements, Online Module and Values, Behaviours and Competency Assessment Due

  • Nominations close on February 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
  • The Candidate Statement Portal closes on February 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. After being nominated by one physiotherapist peer who is eligible to vote in the candidates electoral district, candidates must complete the nomination form before the nominations deadline of February 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. The College will confirm candidates’ eligibility to run. It is best to submit the online nomination form and optional candidate statement well in advance of the nominations deadline. After the nominations deadline, the candidate portal will be closed and the candidate statement will appear as final to voters.
  • The Online Module must be completed before the nominations deadline on February 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Candidates are required to complete an online module to learn more about the role of Council, Council members and self-regulation. 
  • The Values, Behaviours and Competency Assessment must be completed before February 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.

Withdrawal of Candidacy

Candidates may withdraw their candidacy by notifying the Registrar of the withdrawal in writing before March 11, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.

Voting Opens

Voting in the Council elections opens on March 13, 2024. You are eligible to vote in this election as long as you live in the districts that are up for election.

Election Day (Polls Close)

Polls close on April 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
