Provisional Practice Certificate Holders Applying for Independent Practice Certificate of Registration

• How do I apply for an Independent Practice Certificate?

  Applying for an Independent Practice Certificate is completed online.
  
  Access the PT Portal on the College’s website to apply for an Independent Practice Certificate.

  • Choose “I am applying for a new Certificate of Registration with the College—Independent Practice, Provisional Practice or Courtesy”

• How much will it cost?

  You must submit a $114 application and registration fee.
  
  The College registration year runs from April 1 to March 31 each year, and the yearly cost of an Independent Practice Certificate is $648.
  
  However, the College provides a pro-rated fee per day for Independent Practice Certificates, so you will only be required to pay for the number of days left in our registration year, as of the day your Independent Practice Certificate is issued. Staff are happy to answer any questions you might have about the pro-rated fee.

• How long will it take to get an Independent Practice Certificate?

  It takes 15 days from the day that your complete application is received.
  

• Do I have to wait until I can submit a copy of my Physiotherapy Competency Exam results to apply for an Independent Practice Certificate of Registration?

  No. You can submit an application for an Independent Practice Certificate before receiving your exam results. Please note that the College has evidence of your PCE—Written results and you are not required to re-submit this document. We also verify confirmation of your PCE—Clinical results with the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) directly. We do not require any further information from you about this.
  
  

• Can I automatically start working as a fully licensed physiotherapist as soon as I find out that I passed the Exam?

  No. You are still considered a Physiotherapy Resident, working under supervision until you receive email confirmation from the College’s Registration team confirming that you are registered with an Independent Practice Certificate and have paid the registration fee.
