Ontario Government Announces Provincewide Shutdown – Regulated Health Professions Not Affected

On Monday, December 21, the Ontario Government announced additional restrictions to stop the spread of COVID-19. These additional measures include a provincewide shutdown beginning Saturday, December 26.

These additional restrictions will remain in place across the province until January 9, 2021 and in Southern Ontario, will remain in effect until January 23, 2021. Read the government news release and review a summary of the public health and workplace safety measures associated with the provincewide shutdown.

No further restrictions on physiotherapy practice have been announced to date. Physiotherapists and other regulated health professionals may continue to operate, consistent with current guidelines for regulated health professionals.

The Ministry of Health continues to encourage all health care professionals to offer virtual care and tele-rehabilitation as much as possible to help minimize in-person interactions. Consider virtual care as an option particularly if a person screens positive for exposure to the virus or is at risk of complications should they contract COVID-19.

Please visit the College website to review guidance from the Ministry of Health and Public Health Ontario and to access information on infection control measures.

We encourage everyone to take all of the necessary steps to keep their patients and themselves safe.

Sincerely,
