Ontario Government State of Emergency and Stay-at-Home Order – No Changes for Regulated Health Professionals

On Tuesday, January 12, the Ontario Government announced additional restrictions to stop the spread of COVID-19.

These additional measures include a second provincial state of emergency and a stay-at-home order effective Thursday, January 14 requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes, such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services, or for essential work.

Read the government news release and review the restrictions and public health measures associated with this announcement.

No further restrictions on physiotherapy practice have been announced to date. Physiotherapists and other regulated health professionals may continue to operate, consistent with current guidelines for regulated health professionals.

The Ministry of Health continues to encourage all health care professionals to offer virtual care and tele-rehabilitation as much as possible to help minimize in-person interactions. Consider virtual care as an option particularly if a person screens positive for exposure to the virus or is at risk of complications should they contract COVID-19.

Please visit the College website to review guidance from the Ministry of Health and Public Health Ontario and to access information on infection control measures.

We encourage everyone to take all of the necessary steps to keep their patients and themselves safe.

Sincerely,

Darryn Mandel
