Highlights from the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario’s Council Meeting on June 26 and 27, 2023

 

  • Nitin Madhvani officially assumed the role of Council President and chaired his first Council meeting. 
  • Craig Roxborough participated in his first Council meeting as Registrar & CEO.
  • Council received a presentation from Maggie Green of BMS about physiotherapy liability insurance claims data and how it can inform decision making. Maggie outlined common features of a professional liability insurance policy, clarified the difference between individually held and employer held insurance, and provided insight into claims made against physiotherapists in Canada.
  • Council received an update from Dr. Bob Haennel, Chief Executive Officer at the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) about CAPR's member and client services, and the future direction of the organization.
  • Irwin Glasberg, Ontario Fairness Commissioner, gave a presentation about fair access legislation and registration practices, and the role of the office of the Ontario Fairness Commissioner.
  • Council received an introduction to the governance review that will be facilitated by The Regulator’s Practice. The Regulator’s Practice will work alongside Council and senior staff to assess current governance practices, consider the outcomes of recent governance reviews in the health regulatory sector, and engage in a meaningful discussion about the College’s governance priorities moving forward.
  • New and returning Council members received an introduction to the commitments and expectations of Council members when making decisions in the public interest.
  • Council voted to sunset the Entry to Practice Working Group. 
  • Craig Roxborough provided an overview of the key drivers of the College’s financial stabilization plan and engaged in a discussion to identify priorities in support of future planning.
  • Council participated in an education session about developing an enterprise risk management policy and program.
  • Council approved the 2022-2023 audited financial statements from auditor Hilborn LLP.
  • Council completed its Annual General Meeting and received highlights from each College committee over the last year. 
  • Council approved the 2023-2024 Committee Slate.
