Update: Physiotherapy Competency Exam

Update: Physiotherapy Competency Exam

The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario anticipates the successful launch of the clinical component of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE) by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR), with the first exam taking place on September 8, 2021, and a series of exams to follow.

The College has been in close communication with CAPR and has allocated staff and resources to assist with testing the exam platform to help ensure that the exam proceeds as scheduled. Based on our conversations and testing, we are confident that the exam will launch successfully. We also believe that proceeding with the CAPR exam dates as scheduled is the fastest way for us register the list of candidates in waiting.

We know the delay has been incredibly challenging for everyone involved and we appreciate your ongoing patience. The College looks forward to registering all successful candidates in the Independent Practice category as swiftly as possible.

In the unlikely event that CAPR’s exam does not occur on September 8, the College’s Entry to Practice Working Group, as directed by Council, has been working on a plan and is prepared to take action as needed.

The Working Group is also considering longer-term entry to practice requirements and improvements, and will rely upon current research to drive its decisions. We look forward to sharing those recommendations in the future.

We wish all candidates across Canada all the best in challenging the clinical exam and continued success in your physiotherapy careers.
