How to Become a Physiotherapist in Ontario

Physiotherapists in Ontario must complete a Master's degree in Canada. For individuals educated outside of Canada, their education is reviewed by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators to ensure that it is substantially equivalent to the content of a Canadian physiotherapy program.

To use the title Physiotherapist, Physical Therapist or PT, you must be registered with the College. Learn more about how to apply

Important Update: Annual Renewal Deadline Extended to September 30, 2020

We understand that this is an incredibly difficult time for physiotherapists with the health care system in flux and with so many of you not able to see your patients. We are well aware of the financial impact this is having on you and your family.

As the result of these extraordinary circumstances, the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario has decided to extend the March 31, 2020 renewal deadline.

For those PTs who have not yet completed annual renewal please be aware that we are extending the College’s annual renewal period until September 30, 2020.

It is essential that all physiotherapists complete and pay for their registration by September 30, 2020, to maintain their certificates and allow to them to continue to practice. We hope this one-time extension will offer PTs struggling a bit of relief. Renewals made after September 30, 2020 at 11:59 pm will incur a late fee of $225.

No refund will be offered for anyone who has already renewed. However, please know that you have allowed the College to provide an extension to your fellow PTs facing financial difficulty, while allowing the College to continue to function and meet our mandate to protect the public.

If you have questions about the annual renewal extension, please reach out to our Renewal Team at renewal@collegept.org or call 1-800-583-5885 ext. 235 and they are happy to assist you.
